If you want to kick that crappy URL to the curb, and add some wow to your personal brand, just follow these steps.
1. OPEN LINKEDIN
Open up your LinkedIn profile on your desktop. Make sure you have your public profile open (not your news feed) by clicking on your little thumbnail photo on the top right-hand side.
(I haven't found a way to update the URL using the LinkedIn app as yet. If you have, let me know in the comments.)
2. CLICK ON THE GEAR NEXT TO YOUR PUBLIC-PROFILE URL
Under your big profile photo on the left-hand side, you will see your public-profile URL.
If you're using the auto-generated, dog's breakfast version, it will look something like this:
Click on the little blue gear that appears at the end of the URL.
3. CLICK ON THE PENCIL NEXT TO YOUR PUBLIC-PROFILE URL
When you click on the gear, this will open the screen where you edit the URL.
A box on the top right-hand side will say: “Your public profile URL”.
Under that it says: “Enhance your personal brand by creating a custom URL for your LinkedIn public profile.”
Under that, there is a rectangular box containing your existing URL.
Click on the little blue pencil symbol next to the existing URL.
Now you can edit the URL. Delete the random selection of numbers and letters, and create your custom URL.
4. SAVE IT!
Pat yourself on the back, because that’s one more step toward creating your personal brand.
